About my Corvette

I purchased this pristine 1996 Corvette in spring of 2009 with just over 13000 miles on the odometer. As many are well aware, the C4 was not one of the fastest models produced by Chevrolet and in stock form this car ran a best of 14.10 @ 98 MPH. I decided to boost the cars performance by installing a Magnaflow Cat-back Stainless exhaust system, 3.75 gears and a B&M 2400 stall converter. These modifications yeilded a little improvement, resulting in a best of 13.8's @ 99 mph. I knew that in order to significantly improve on the cars performance the stock LT1 was going to need some help. I decided that a cam, long tube headers and an electric waterpump were the next modifications on my list. I chose Hooker Super Comp 1 3/4 inch tube headers and a Comp 503 cam with 224/230 duration @ .050" and .539/.544 lift with the 1.6 ratio rockers that were also installed with the cam. Due to the cam having a much higher lift than the stock springs could handle, Comp 26918 "Beehive" valve springs were installed. A GM Performance Parts single roller timing chain designed for use in the ZZ3 crate motor was also installed since I did not need a water pump drive on the cam gear with the CSR electric water pump. With the major changes to the engine, I knew that a tune would be in order to get the maximum benefit from the new combination and PCMFORLESS.COM helped me out with a mail order tune that perfomed flawlessly. The new combination yeilded a respectable 12.62 @ 109.53 mph, but with a 1.89 60'. In the quest for a better 60', I installed a set of MT ET Street Radials, the drag radials provided enough traction to cause the Dana 36 to start making some noise, so it was upgraded to a Dana 44 with 3.73 gears to improve durability. In the quest for more power, I started looking at cylinder heads and with the Trick Flow 185 GenX castings just becoming available they seemed to be a good fit for a serious street performance application. I purchased the castings bare and ordered the Ferrea valves seperately from Trick Flow. The castings were exceptionally good as cast, but I decided to do a slight amount of clean up porting and polishing. The Comp springs and retainers were then installed at 1.785". Comp 7.290 hardened pushrods, guideplates and ARP rocker arm studs finished off the valve train. The engine was then topped off by a Lloyd Elliot ported intake, 30 # SVO injectors and a Performance Products 58mm throttle body. A Racetronix 255 lph fuel pump was then installed to insure that the larger injectors were getting adequate fuel flow. The new found power highlighted the next weak link in the C4 drivetrain, as the 3-4 clutch pack failed shortly after the head swap. I pulled the stock 4l60E out and upgraded it with an 8 disc 3-4 pack, wide 2-4 band and a Transgo HD2 reprogramming kit. Since the transmission was already out, I decided to install a larger converter that was better suited to a heads/cam LT1. I ordered a Yank PT4000 to go in front of the freshly upgraded 4L60E. With the new heads and larger stall, the car was able to significantly improve on it's previous best running a 12.09 @ 113.03 with a 1.65 60'. The suspension was upgraded with DRM trailing arm and camber brackets and the stock shocks were replaced with a set of QA1 adjustable drag shocks. The ET Street radials proved to be inconsistent on the 60's, and were replaced by a set of Hoosier Drag Radials on Race Star wheels. A set of M&H front runners were also installed to shave some weight. The new combination was able to bring the E.T. down to 11.69@115.49 with a 1.59 60'.
